Derby Party Pantry Item Must Haves

The Kentucky Derby is coming  back to Churchill Downs on May 1st  and here in Louisville, that means it’s time to start planning our Derby parties. This year makes the 147th Run For The Roses and, prior to 2020, it had run uninterrupted for 144 straight years. The race being back to it’s usual spot on the calendar, the first Saturday of May, is something worth celebrating! The best way we know how to celebrate is with good food. Now’s the time to stock your pantry with gourmet pantry items and get ready for a Derby Day.

Here are some food ideas for snacks to munch on while watching the most exciting two minutes of sports.

Deviled Eggs

Elevate your traditional deviled egg by taking out the mayonnaise and instead using olive oil and Greek yogurt. They’re healthier but still just as tasty and easy to make. All you have to do is boil the eggs and peel them then scoop the yolks into a bowl. You’ll mix a little olive oil, cumin, mustard, lemon juice, Greek yogurt, and salt & pepper with the yolks and then scoop them back into the egg whites. Our Garlic, Chipotle, or Eureka Lemon olive oils would add delicious flavor to the deviled eggs making them worthy of “Millionaire’s Row”.

Biscuits & Tomato Jam

A party in the South without biscuits is no party at all. These biscuits are made with almond milk, olive oil, and absolutely no butter but are just just as flakey and delicious as a traditional biscuit. We have a variety of spreads for your homemade biscuits but think the tomato jam, a sweet fruity jam with a hint of lime, would be mouth-watering.

Charcuterie Board

Charcuterie Boards are a crowd pleaser and the best part is that they’re incredibly customizable. You can pick and choose what you want on your board according to your taste and there’s really no right or wrong way to do it. We have a guide on how to create the perfect charcuterie board using our gourmet pantry items such as fruit compotes, stuffed olives, and honey to tie it all together as they are complementary to the meats, cheeses, fruits, and veggies you’ll have on your board.

All of our gourmet food items are conveniently available for pick-up or delivery. Happy Derby Day fellow Louisvillians and Derby enthusiasts alike. Make sure to tag us in your Derby food pictures!
